30 ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Video Game & Pop Culture References

We caught 30 different video game references (some obvious, some obscure) and pop culture homages to everything from comic book superheroes to The Legend of Zelda to ‘Seinfeld.’ Did we miss any?

…1. Scott’s band is called Sex Bob-omb. A bob-omb is a wind-up walking bomb that made its debut in Super Mario Bros. 2. It’s no friend, but thanks to its timed explosive nature it can be used as an impromptu weapon against other enemies.

2. When Scott defeats Ramona’s evil exes, they dissolve into coins. One of the earliest and most memorable video games to use the coin phenomenon is River City Ransom on the NES, where enemies would also comically yell “Barf!” upon defeat. However recent games, like the over-the-top ‘No More Heroes’ series, combine coins with gore: chopping enemies in half results in a fountain of blood and cash.

3. Young Neil is Sex Bob-Omb’s fill-in bassist, and also a Nintendo fanboy. He can be seen playing a Nintendo DS lite, wearing a Nintendo 64 t-shirt, and lists both Tetris and The Legend of Zelda as his favorite games.

4. Scott’s roommate Wallace Wells can be a bit of a jerk. Then again, he’s often stuck sharing his bed with Scott — awkward, especially when he brings home a…

Original Return of the Jedi Ending Didn’t Include Ewok Party

Far be it from me to argue with the business acumen of George Lucas - after all, the filmmaker and current scourge of the geek universe was smart enough to include merchandising rights in his original deal for Star Wars - but did he really ruin what would have been a killer ending to Return of the Jedi because of toy sales?

…Han Solo in the early part of the story and that he would then die in the middle part of the film in a raid on an Imperial base. George then decided he didn t want any of the principals killed. By that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.

The discussed ending of the film that Kurtz favored presented the rebel forces in tatters, Leia grappling with her new duties as queen and Luke walking off alone like Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns, as Kurtz put it.

Other than the fact that under no circumstances could anyone ever compare the acting stylings of Mark Hamill to Clint Eastwood s Man with No Name, this sounds positively awesome. So naturally it didn t happen. But hey, those Ewoks were pretty cute. Don t act like you didn t have an Ewok doll when you were growing up. Just me?

8 Personal Development Lessons To Learn From Inception

If you’ve watched Inception (if you haven’t yet you really should), you’d know it’s a movie with multiple layers of meanings.

…3). Fighting the manifestations of his regret didn t solve anything either it just made things worse as he swirled in more regret. The problem or manifestations of the problem simply came back each time, in different ways. It was only when he uncovered and acknowledged the root cause (that he was the indirect cause of Mal s death, and hence broke the promise that they d live together forever) that he was able to address his guilt (they did live old together in limbo and he fulfilled his promise. He was merely living in the past and he had to move on and be with his kids).
Relating this to personal development If you re facing a problem, trying to tackle the problem itself will only solve it temporarily. For example, forcing yourself not to procrastinate addresses your procrastination within that one-off incident, but it does not solve the real issue of why you even procrastinate to begin with. Forcing yourself to go to work in a passionless job will help you to last another day, or week, but it does not…

Twilight Almost Cost Me My Wife (and My Life)

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who want to eradicate everything associated with Twilight from the face of the earth and those responsible for polluting the public consciousness with its blood-sucking adolescent melodrama.

…, but we both know WHY and thus she s understandable (relatively, anyway), and thankfully she s willing to discuss these issues at length. It s when you DON T know you have it that it s a real problem, because then you re probably having to deal with all of the denial and slow learning process of what the hell is going on.
Assuming your wife is dissociative and/or has MPD/DID, O believe it is something that can be dealt with. Start by discussing it with her and see what she thinks. I m not recommending any particular analysis or therapy, as how you want to handle it depends on the situation.
If you go the therapy route, be warned that the typical recommended therapy for MPD/DID is integration which involves trying to merge all of a person s personalities into one single personality. This has some drawbacks as well, as there s no way to merge personalities that are opposite. Most multiples have personalities of mixed gender, for instance. So how do you merge a sweet female personality with a strong-willed…

"Pixar films don’t get finished, they just get released"

Mid-2008, hoping at best to receive a signed photo from his idol in return, a young man named Adam wrote to Pete Docter, the award-winning director of Monsters, Inc. and, more recently, Up. Here is the cool reply he received.

…Mid-2008, hoping at best to receive a signed photo from his idol in return, a young man named Adam wrote to Pete Docter, the award-winning director of Monsters, Inc. and, more recently, Up. In the letter he spoke of his admiration for Docter and, as an amateur filmmaker and huge Pixar fan, mentioned his desire to work for the studio in the future. Lo and behold, months later the lovely handwritten note seen below arrived on Adam’s doorstep. Says Adam:
Here is what I received from Pete Docter, one of the most influential and important people at Pixar, the best animation studio on the planet.Transcript follows. Many thanks to Adam for allowing us to feature his letter. Be sure to check out his blog, Disney, etc….

7 Total Chick Flicks Disguised As Guy Movies

At first glance, the films below have all of the characteristics that make them seem like guy movies (sports, sex, large objects being blown up, crazy action scenes, unbelievably hot women, etc.), but in reality, they are really just giant romantic mush-fests.
