‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Due December 2011

David Fincher’s English language remake of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ will be released around two Spielberg films, a Martin Scorsese picture and other sure fire hits.

…t told the story.”Though the creative direction of this film is sounding excellent, the release date presents some potential problems. I’m sure that moviegoers will have a hearty interest in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, as the original has made over $100 million worldwide to date and Steig Larrson’s literary series is a major hit as well. But a December 2011 release puts the film up against Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures Of Tin-Tin and Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret. Hopefully The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 fever will subside by that time (it will be released on November 18th, 2011), but Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes sequel will also pose a threat to the box-office take of Fincher’s film, along with Mission: Impossible IV and a third Alvin and The Chipmunks adventure. I certainly think that, even though all of these tentpoles surround Tattoo, the audience is there, but the multiplexes of America will be saturated with more mainstream content that might win moviegoers dollars. Sony may want to…

Evidence that The Riddler is the villian in Batman 3

Casting grids leak out, JGL up for the role of Ed Nigma

…Where as the dark knight was Batman meets Heat, if they use the riddler, go with a Batman meets Seven vibe and make the Riddler more of a serial killer type dude playing with Batman. I do like the idea of him working with the Police to track down Batman though that would be cool. I actually think the Riddler is the PERFECT batman villain for Nolan to work with even more than (dare I say) the Joker. Nolan IS the riddler. His movies are puzzles and riddles and rhymes and this character is right up his alley. Forget your Jim Carrey vision think of him totally reinvented. And even though she’s been done before Catwoman would work in the Nolanverse of Batman as she’s reality based as well. Batman lost the good girl let him “experiment” with the bad girl now as he makes his path to redemption….

‘X-Men: First Class’ Escapes Inclusion of Taylor Lautner

Bryan Singer-produced movie dodged a bullet when Lautner became unable to work on the X-Men prequel. Though the casting has been spotty at best, this is definitely a win for the fans.

…to do it, I really did. He’s doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction and then he’s got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it.”Though I’ve enjoyed all of his films and almost everything that has his name on it, I have to wonder what was going through Singer’s mind when considering Lautner for a role in the film. Friendship aside, what qualities (other than rippling muscles) has he shown that justifies his addition to the franchise? None. His acting is laughably one-dimensional and he’s not yet proven that he can open a movie by himself. His fan base consists of young females who lie outside of X-Men’s target audience, which consists of 14-35 year-old males who can’t stand the site of him. Further, the casting of the younger characters has been met with a tremendous amount of scrutiny thus far, as many claim that Fox aims to cash in on the dollars of younger moviegoers who have made Lautner…

7 Characters That Screwed People Over Like LeBron Did Clev.

In a cold calculated event that could’ve only been worse had he worn a t-shirt that read “F.U. Cleveland”, the self proclaimed “King”, LeBron James went on live television to rip out the hearts of every Cleveland Cavaliers fan.

…In a cold calculated event that could ve only been worse had he worn a t-shirt that read F.U. Cleveland , the self proclaimed King , LeBron James went on live television to rip out the hearts of every Cleveland Cavaliers fan. This heartless betrayal got us thinking about similar acts that have taken place on film and today we take a quick look at some characters that have pulled a LeBron. 7. Jake Sully From: Avatar This deceiving douchebag managed to screw two races over. First, Mr. Sully shows up on Pandora to join the Avatar program and maybe score his legs back. Once he joins the Avatar program he begins a sneaky mission of spying on the native Na vi. Jake gains their trust, learns their ways, eats their food and bangs their women all the while betraying them by giving the humans information on how to get rid of the Na vi. At some point along the way, probably after some mind-blowing sex under the Tree of Souls, Jake has a change of heart and decides he doesn t want to screw the Na vi anymore. Oops too…

Peter Jackson, Figuring Out How To Fix New Zealand Film

In between creating increasingly gigantic films, Peter Jackson got together with David Court, an Australian academic, and issued an 87-page report on the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of the New Zealand Film Commission.

…accountability should go from “low” to “high,” the management culture from “controlling” to “co-operative.”

The gist is that the NZFC means well but is staffed by terrified bureaucrats who don’t know how to read screenplays and do everything too slow. These insights will be familiar to anyone who’s followed horror stories of the Hollywood development process (”The Commission tends to use drafts as a way of avoiding decisions,” reports one anonymous soul. “If in doubt write another draft. It’s a momentum killer.”)

Everyone seems to agree that it’s important to nurture young talent, though it’s unclear what the best way to do this might be. There’s an endorsement of conventional screenwriting wisdom that would warm Robert McKee’s heart: “We need to get past the cultural cringe of imagining ‘we don’t want to tell American stories’. A good story tutor teaches principles that have driven storytelling since the ancient Greeks.”

On the other hand, there’s a lot of stuff like this: “it is our recommendation not…

Best Movie Posters from Pakistani Industry Lollywood

…Lollywood refers to the Pakistani film industry based in the city of Lahore. The word Lollywood was first coined in the summer of 1989 in the now defunct magazine Glamour published from Karachi by a gossip columnist Saleem Nasir. The film industry in Lahore started in 1929 with the opening of the United Players Studios on Ravi Road. The cornerstone for the studio was set by Abdur Rashid Kardar. Since then the studio has managed various indigenous productions competing with other film production centres in the undivided India, namely Bombay and Calcutta.

Most of the feature films shot in Pakistan are in National Language Urdu, Urdu is sometimes used in feature films of Bollywood at small scale, but are largely in Hindi, and may also include films in local languages like, Punjabi, Pashto, Balochi or Sindhi.

Before the Bangladesh Separation, Pakistan had three main film production centres: Lahore, Karachi and Dhaka. The regime of Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, VCRs, film piracy, the introduction of entertainment taxes,…

…s quest for that long, rectangular, 4-peg brick that was here just a second ago, god damn it where did it go?Lord and Miller will get a chance to play with the LEGO film after they finish developing a 21 Jump Street movie with Jonah Hill, and brush their teeth and get in their pajamas. There may be no official casting news yet, we think Brad Pitt is a shoe-in for that one LEGO guy with an eyepatch. 15 Badass Films Set In New York City (w/ vids)

New York City is perhaps one of the most badass cities in the world. Here are 15 awesome films throughout history that have done it justice.

…It s the cultural center of the United States, and arguably of modern Western civilization. As one of the primary entry points for new immigrants, New York City is an incubator for all sorts of new artistic and commercial influences. And, on the big screen, it s been annihilated dozens of times. Even when they don t depict the city s wipeout, the best action flicks, film noirs, and dark comedies set in the Rotten Apple have a certain grit in matching the city s hardscrabble rep. Here are a few of our favorites….

A Tribute to Norman Bates

A boy’s best friend is his mother.

…The classic 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho turns 50 this week, and in traditional Gunaxin fashion, we d like to pay homage to its most famous character, Norman Bates. Norman, played by Anthony Perkins, enjoys taxidermy, being a peeping Tom, and obeying his mother. He s also really good at doing voices and would ve likely been a great cartoon voice actor had he not inherited the family motel. In fact, he s so good that he can voice two characters at once having a conversation.
Bates was based on killer Ed Gein (right), who also had issues with his mother. No word if Gein was any good at voices though. Bates is ranked as the second greatest villain on the American Film Institute s list of the top 100 film heroes and villains.
Now, let s get into the Norman mindset by watching his last scene in the film. Note that if you ve never seen the film and don t know the twist, I already gave it away.
